Claiborne Robins School of Business at the University of Richmond teaching Strategic Process Improvement in the MBA program utilizing the Baldrige model and Lean Six Sigma as the framework for the course. The Robins School was ranked 29th in the BusinessWeek 2013 U.S. Business School rankings.

Coach and mentor to senior leaders to improve key corporate processes such as leadership; strategic planning/balanced scorecard; patient/customer and physician satisfaction; clinical quality outcomes and safety; and operational/financial and human resource performance.Design and lead performance improvement efforts including Lean Six Sigma philosophy, methodology, tools and techniques. Certify Green Belts.Lead organizational assessments using the Baldrige National Quality Program framework to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement and drive performance improvement activities.

Doug Sears recently retired as the Director, Performance Improvement/Knowledge Transfer for Bon Secours Health System - highly successful and widely recognized for superior quality, with headquarters in Maryland. Doug initiated, designed, and led Enhancing Performance Excellence (EPE) – integrating all performance improvement efforts across the System. This initiative achieved a $120 million impact over the past three years. CMS composite scores have achieved 96+%, sepsis mortality rates have decreased 27%, and Physician preference scores have increased from the 58th to the 74th percentile in past year. A recent Joint Commission Journal on Quality and Patient Safety ranks the System 23rd of top 100 systems in quality of care and patient satisfaction. Doug designed, implemented, and led a comprehensive Lean Six Sigma performance improvement program throughout Bon Secours. This nationally recognized initiative generated over $30 million in net savings through 300+ completed projects over the past five years. Doug personally taught all Lean Six Sigma courses and has certified 77 Black Belts and 800+ Green Belts within Bon Secours. Doug was instrumental in integrating and institutionalizing the Lean Six Sigma philosophy/concepts into key business processes and organizational culture. Doug facilitated over 500 diverse and successful performance improvement projects and conducted 400+ Lean and Six Sigma sessions for over 5000 leaders and employees. Doug led the System’s Emergency Care Service Line (15 facilities in five states) supporting a critical System Growth strategy. Doug led the redesign of critical ED processes with 80+ clinical and operational leaders focused on leadership and staff engagement, flow/throughput, technology integration, and physician alignment issues. ED volume has increased 17% across the System with associated $7 million net contribution margin in targeted markets in the past few years.
