Key member of engineering team working on the conceptual development, design, testing, and documentation of next generation foam-in-bag packaging equipment as well as the design of associated manufacturing fixtures. This work required the design of milled, turned, sheet metal, plastic injection molded, and aluminum/plastic extruded parts, mechanisms, and assemblies using SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM. Documentation responsibilities included detailed part drawings, assembly drawings, and wire harnesses.

Worked on a variety of projects in the areas of standard locks, combination locks, shared use locks, hardware items, and return bin products. Designed mechanisms, stamped metal parts, plastic injection molded parts, and zinc die cast parts for various products using SolidWorks and Draftsight. Communicated with overseas manufacturing sources to bring products to market.• Developed the project plan and designed the Zephyr Lock line of shared use locks.• Created documentation package for Return Bin products to achieve manufacturing control.• Redesigned components to eliminate functional defects in multiple product areas.• Served as a mentor for junior engineers.

Managed the concept development, design, testing, and documentation of all foam-in-place and foam-in-bag packaging equipment as well as the design of manufacturing fixtures and test equipment. This work required the design of milled, turned, sheet metal, EDM, plastic injection molded, and aluminum extruded parts, mechanisms, and assemblies using PRO/Engineer. Documentation responsibilities included creation of all specification sheets for purchased items, detailed part drawings, assembly drawings, wire harnesses, and manufacturing procedures. Participated in vendor selection for parts and materials.• Envisioned the overall architecture of the industry standard foam-in-bag and foam-in-place machines and completed the entire mechanical designs from layout to final documentation.• Enabled production to continue and kept machines in the field by successfully designing and implementing a critical field retrofit in a short timeframe • Increased the life of a key component 6 to 10 times reducing costs and the frequency of service by determining the procedure and designing the equipment to adjust a critical setting.• Reduced costs and eliminated a major field service issue by proposing and designing a ball valve mechanism integral to the handheld dispenser manifold.• Reduced the costs of wire harnesses by 45% or more by taking ownership of harness design and developing my own documentation scheme allowing quick sourcing from multiple vendors.

Following an overall reorganization at the Milford plant, assumed responsibility for the software and hardware administration of Sun workstations, Sun servers, printers/plotters, UPS, a Windows NT terminal server, and data backup systems. I supported Graftek, PRO/Engineer, and PRO/Intralink users and administered a commercial parts library.• Adapted quickly and learned the requisite skills within five months to fill the role of UNIX System Administrator with no prior experience.

Designed high throughput assembly and test equipment for manufacturing using Graftek and PRO/Engineer. Responsible for all aspects of large design projects, including planning, design, procurement, fabrication, integration, debugging, documentation, and support. Designed, built, tested and otherwise made operable machines that are or have been successfully used in high-speed pen manufacturing and assembly.• Designed, built, and troubleshot the equipment to assemble new products, the Round Stic Grip® and Cristal Grip® pens, at rates of 200 pens per minute on my first project at Bic.• Helped launch the Luminere® candle lighter by working closely with the product development and marketing teams to design test equipment for manufacturing.

Designed custom machinery for a variety of industries, using SolidWorks and AutoCAD. This work included strong interactions with internal and external shops, hands on machine operation and the testing and debugging of equipment. Projects included an automated assembly machine for large transformer winding cores, a milling machine for slotting timing belts, and an automated electrical and mechanical tester for automobile cigarette lighters.• Enabled an assembly machine to ship by empirically proving the machine was gluing pieces within the required specifications and the customer's own raw materials were out of tolerance.
