I have been a die-hard academic for over forty years, specializing in educational assessment, child and youth literacy, and the effects of school reform. In 2005, I co-founded The Learning Bar Inc., with the aim of bringing my research on children's development and assessment into widespread practice. The company employs over 60 staff in its Australian, Canadian and U.S. offices, providing research, assessment services, and training in several countries worldwide. We have three flag-ship solutions:The Early Years Evaluation (EYE) includes easy-to-use assessments of children’s developmental skills at ages 3 to 6. The interventions are linked to an intervention designed to strengthen children’s developmental and pre-literacy skills. The solution includes the EYE-100, a set of one hundred fun and engaging play-based activities. Confident Learners is a whole-school, whole-community literacy program based on the science of literacy and instructional practice. It provides educators and parents with a rigorous literacy program that enables children to progress step-by-step on the literacy pathway. Teachers learn how to integrate effective classroom activities into their daily lessons. The OurSCHOOL |TTFM evaluation system includes a suite of surveys for students, teachers and parents that enables them to gain a deeper understanding of their school community. Data emanating from the surveys are linked to a program on strategic engagement that helps teachers and principals use data and reports to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment.
