This enabled the tech writers to collaborate, have a backup of the source files, and pass on projects to writers. This became a valuable tool to review work as well as initiate writers collaborate on the same project. Train Tech Writers: As I managed the template Flare project and the repository, I also became an expert in Rally and JIRA. I initiated training for existing and new hires to the team to understand how to use the same tools as developers to understand each release. This enabled the tech writers to be able to communicate with their product teams when tracking the release through Rally or defects in JIRA, then incorporate the changes for a release in the documents using single-source writing. Create Templates: If you know how important templates are, then you know why this is a highlight. During a marketing update of logos and color schemes, I took over the design of the Word templates to be used by the organization, emphasizing tech writers being able to create the same look from Flare output. In Flare, I mimicked the same design but used the stylesheet, master pages, page layouts, and skins to create the same look that marketing was wanting. Establish Team: After a merger to a new company, I helped add more technical writers to the organization by reviewing resumes and interviewing. I trained all the new tech writers thought we reported to different managers. I ensured that we met regularly despite who we reported to while adding other writers in the company to our group.
