As a youngster, I spent many summer holidays on my cousin's farm in Kojonup. I am reminded (as I have no personal recollection) at family gatherings, how I expressed my love for the farm (I now live on a cattle farm), by firstly planting a cricket stump in their new leather sofa and secondly, by hiding in the pump house till nightfall. It seems my love of dry needling and camping, plus a dose of strong determination started pretty early.I qualified from Curtin University in 1987 and having hitched across Australia in my 3rd year, returned to Tasmania for my first job. In addition to working as a physio I was a scuba instructor, bushwalking guide and wine waiter. Over the next few years I spent a lot of time in the outdoors; learning skills in scuba, rock climbing, bush walking and triathlons in Tasmania, Canada, USA and Patagonia. Solo activities taught me to plan, be organised and respect the environment. I returned to Australia to complete post graduate diplomas in manipulative physiotherapy and clinical acupuncture and in 2009, completed my specialisation in musculoskeletal physiotherapy. I presented as an invited guest speaker at the APA's 2011 & 2013 Biennial Conferences and as the invited national speaker in 2019. I continue to work clinically at Esperance Physiotherapy.I created AAP Education in 1995 when I started presenting a series of 4, 2-day courses in dry needling and later an online course, Strive & Thrive in Private Practice (to provide the necessary non-clinical skills new & recent graduates require to successfully transition from undergraduate training to private practice). Since then AAP Education, in collaboration with a range of awesome clinicians, has grown to provide a broad range of post graduate, high quality, clinical education around Australia.Since 1991, I have been researching relationships between sleep posture and waking spinal symptoms (neck and low back) as part of my PhD. at Curtin University.
