Martin O’Malley that led me to discover and expose his questionable purchase of furniture from the governor’s mansion; revealed lack of government oversight of group homes for disabled foster children in Maryland that resulted in the closure of one home, sanctions at a second, and new state rules for such care. I also provided breaking news investigations related to Freddie Gray’s death, including exclusive reports on “rough rides,” an examination of the rare instances when police officers are charged criminally when someone dies in their custody, and a detailed analysis of public housing programs expanded quietly throughout the Baltimore region to help diminish the legacy of housing discrimination.
