I am helping design, build, and support the infrastructure to support games including The Elder Scrolls Online, both in our own datacenters and in public cloud environments. I have led efforts to save millions of dollars per year through right-sizing without sacrificing performance or stability. I am primarily responsible for our on-premises cloud environment, managing VMware virtualization infrastructure, EMC and Pure Storage storage solutions, and HPE bladesystem hardware.

At ePals I helped drive a migration to Amazon Web Services. There were several components to this. One was the network architecture, placing our AWS instances in VPCs and using point-to-point VPN connections to link them with our legacy data center. Another was automation, managing server configuration entirely from Puppet. Third was cost control, managing reserved instances and figuring out the most cost effective ways to provide needed services from AWS.

Helped improve web server capacity tenfold through implementation of xcache and memcached. Implementation of VMware and puppet. Migration of data to new data center.

Operated a web-based browser game on two LAMP-based servers. Implemented several third-party APIs including Facebook and Paypal. Vastly improved MySQL performance through server tuning, query optimization, reducing quantity of DB calls through coding changes and implementation of memcached. Improved web server performance by implementing xcache and use of lighttpd. Identified and fixed security flaws in PHP code.

Dramatically improved performance of DMOZ site through configuration of reverse proxy and Apache webserver, with no additional hardware. Managed scalability of video encoding platform used for Uncut Video and xdrive. Use of memcached and MySQL best practices to improve performance of database-driven sites.

I was responsible for all things systems and network related. In addition, I played a significant role in developing marketing strategies, helping determine company direction, and managing projects including the development of an internal customer service application.

Overall systems administration of approx. 50 Sun servers. Built SAN infrastructure including live mirroring of data to offsite location. Dramatically improved systems availability by migrating to fault tolerant architecture at storage, application, server, and network levels. Developed processes and documentation to enable company to provide a consistent, high level of service.

With musicians' pemission, built a PHP and MySQL powered web site which provided a trading community of over 30,000 members with a place to trade rare recordings of live performances. The site had a matchmatching-style interface and handled over 5,000 daily page views and a database with over 100,000 records.

Helped architect Jumpstart infrastructure to create a streamlined, repeatable operating system and software installation process. Engineered Kerberos authentication architecture to handle systems administrators from many geograpic locations without having to depend on network availability. Architected security auditing system to maintain security and detect changes on over 1000 Sun servers.
