My earliest memories include seeing my parents serve and work in our community – 🏡🏫🙏 in our home, at school as teachers, and at our church. Having modeled this behavior for me, I was naturally drawn towards a similar leadership style in my personal and professional life – working hard and working together towards a common goal. We call it collaboration🫱🏼‍🫲🏾 in the workplace, and it is built on trust, and this is my favorite way to lead a team.I had lots of opportunities to lead teams in the Air Force, and I loved leading bigger and more impactful tech teams along the way. I am proud of the work our team did using data analytics 📈 and Lean Six Sigma to drastically improve the user experience (UX). Our work that I led was highlighted in a series of articles over 4 weeks in the Base paper 📰 and it documented how we revolutionized customer support to 4,900 people. Another time, I had a unique opportunity to lead a team that helped revolutionize the communications systems at the Kabul International Airport – what an honor. 🛫🌍Then I discovered a gold mine when offered the opportunity to combine my technical skills and the military medical field.⚕️I led the team that was 1st of 120 US Army medical facilities to solve a complex cybersecurity problem for 5,400 endpoints. We used data analytics in a unique way, and I communicated daily progress to leaders for 45 days through project completion. After a 2-star general officer visit, what a rush to hear my boss say, ‘why do you always get the nice version of our general officer and I get the mean one?!’ My easy retort was ‘the results, sir.’ 📊I had to take a minute to write down many of the lessons I learned, and I captured them in a forthcoming book 📚 (see post below). With a desire to continue using my skills and talents in the medical field, I turned to private industry. I spearheaded the design of several new capabilities along with building organizational culture initiatives and creating and delivering educational content for over 500 technical staff.
