Xzeres Wind Corporation Jul 2010 - Jan 2012
    Wilsonville, Oregon, Us
Provided technical leadership for wind turbine systems development. Responsible for wind turbine control system, aero-elastic modeling, system level trade studies, blade development, technical specification writing, technical documentation for wind turbine certification, engineering interface to sales and marketing, technical training of sales force.
  • Hewlett-Packard
Senior Hardware Systems Engineer - Motion Control Systems
    Hewlett-Packard Feb 2006 - Jul 2010
    Houston, Texas, Us
Provided technical leadership for a team of five motion control systems engineers. Responsible for motion system technical architecture and implementation including electro-mechanical system optimization and hardware design, algorithms, and embedded firmware for the HP DeskJet, PhotoSmart, OfficeJet and OfficeJet Pro product lines.Specific Accomplishments:• Technical lead for motion systems and control for two products under development as well as the OfficeJet Pro K5400 and 8000/8500, HP’s top profit generating InkJet products.• Drove cost reduction effort that saved $10M in first year of the K5400 OfficeJet Pro production. • Led multiple power supply size reduction efforts and implemented algorithms to optimize performance and power usage allowing for smaller power supplies with no performance loss. • Designed and implemented a multi-loop temperature controller for an AC powered page drying system which met tight drying zone temperature tolerances and safety requirements. • Created firmware architecture for real time feedback control of 20+ digital servos which minimized RAM usage and reduced design effort per servo. • Developed a custom package for Matlab to simulate and visualize a printer paper path. Used results to drive major cost reduction of mechanical design. Also used to enable model based firmware development and pulled up the firmware development schedule by three months. • Led a three-year DC motor research project with Purdue University resulting in an advanced model of DC motor torque disturbances.
  • Hewlett-Packard
Hardware Systems Engineer - Motion Control Systems
    Hewlett-Packard Jul 1998 - Jan 2006
    Houston, Texas, Us
Responsible for motion control system development in all phases of the product development life cycle for paper, ink cartridge and ink cartridge service station motion axes on multiple products. Performed tasks such as:• Specified and selected electro-mechanical drive components such as power supplies, motor drivers, DC motors, feedback elements and mechanical drive systems. • Integrated, tested and validated complete motion control systems including electronics, motors, mechanics and firmware. • Developed real time feedback control algorithms and implemented in firmware. • Delivered robust motion control systems by analyzing parameter variation due to high volume manufacturing processes. Specific Accomplishments:• Saved over $10M year by inventing open loop motor temperature observer and temperature control algorithm to keep motors cool in all use cases, reduce motor cost and simplify the development process. • Optimized HP direct material cost vs. product performance with multi-disciplinary system level speed versus cost trade studies. • Organized and chaired an HP Motion Control Conference attended by 35 engineers from six worldwide HP divisions for sharing of best practices and strengthening the technical community. • Organized HP DC motor design class and brought in external expert to teach.
  • Hewlett-Packard
    Hardware Systems Engineer - Mechanical
    Hewlett-Packard Jul 1996 - Jul 1998
    Houston, Texas, Us
Responsible for the design, development and validation of mechanical hardware on multiple ink jet printer products. Designed mechanical parts for high volume manufacturing processes including sheet metal progressive dies, injection molded plastic and elastomeric stamping. Generated 3D body solid geometry and accompanying 2D drawings utilizing GD&T.Specific Accomplishments• Solved critical print quality problem on the HP DeskJet 800 series product line by designing a vibration test system, generating custom software for manipulation and visualization of complex data sets, and using resulting animation to discover the failure mode. Designed new mechanical parts to isolate the vibration and eliminate the defect. • Diagnosed the root cause of a critical print quality issue holding up production of the HP DeskJet 700 series products. Developed control solution for paper motion control system and allowed the product to ship on time.
