Profile bio

About Doug Hogan

My name is Doug Hogan. I’m a Creative Technologist and VFX Professional with 18 years of experience across the Entertainment, Advertising, and Education industries. I’ve worked on a bunch of feature films, contributed to theme park media installations, been on set for major advertising projects, and—yes—I can also code! With this diverse experience, I really bring a lot to the table.Oh, and I’m colorblind—yep, Recruiters, I’m THAT good. Luckily, I have a pair of high-tech glasses that help with that too!So, what is a Creative Technologist? Honestly, it changes every day in this industry, and that’s why I love it. Right now, it’s a lot about AI, Virtual Production, custom and secure LLMs, and GenAI workflows. But if I had to sum it up, I’d say I’m an adaptable problem solver who’s made a career out of finding solutions. I use a wide range of technical tools to tackle tough challenges for my clients, and if I can solve it with off-the-shelf tools, great! If not, well then I’ll build them from scratch. As a VFX professional, I’m not afraid to explore the unknown or say those magic words: “I don’t know. Let’s find out.” I believe in the power of kindness in the workplace and love mentoring those who need a little guidance. I’m passionate about teaching CG and have taught at major universities and online platforms like fxphd and Pluralsight. It’s such a privilege to watch other artists grow!Outside of work, I’m an avid rock climber and runner (covering 1,235 miles last year), a coach—whether for VFX careers or 4th-grade girls’ basketball (Go 'Scarlet Fire'!)—and a VFX community organizer. I resurrected "VFXTalk" during the 2024 industry strikes as a safe, online space for other digital artists of all skill levels to learn and grow, just like I had when I started my career. Now almost 1.5k members strong! My name is Doug Hogan, and I’m ready to help you solve your next big challenge. Let’s chat!

Listed skills include Nuke, Compositing, Visual Effects, Maya, and 35 others.
