Data Services Branch Chief
CurrentDouglas R Binnie leads the Data Services activities at the Earth Resources Observation and Science Center (EROS) located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Mr. Binnie career started at EROS in 1975 working as contractor then moving to the USGS in 1984. His work thru the years has involved operations management, engineering as well as research and product development. Mr. Binnie Leads the Data Services Branch which is responsible for the access and distribution of USGS, Climate and Land Use Change products which include Landsat and Landsat derivative information, Aster and Modis information in support of the NASA Land Process DAAC as well as LIDAR data and the future distribution of Landsat derived Climate Data Records (CDRs) and Essential Climate Variables (ECVs). Mr. Binnie’s future mission is to “Ensure that scientists, decision makers, and the public have ready access to land change information and to safeguard and expand the national archive of remotely sensed land data.”
