The Board’s primary role is to ensure that the interests of the public are protected and maintained.The Board of Directors is the oversight and policy-making group for the College. The College’s administrative staff are responsible for carrying out these policies and administering the Regulated Health Professions Act, the Pharmacy Act and the Drug and Pharmacies Regulation Act and associated regulations.All Board meetings are open to the public with regularly scheduled meetings four times per year in September, December, March and June. Its activities are subject to review by the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board, the Health Professions Regulatory Advisory Council and the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care. The Minister can advise or make certain requests of the Board regarding the regulatory authorities of the College. The Board makes regulations – subject to government approval – under the Regulated Health Professions Act and the Drug and Pharmacies Regulation Act.The Board elects a Chair and Vice Chair from among its Directors and is responsible for hiring a Registrar who is the Chief Executive Officer of the College. The Registrar oversees the day-to-day work and administrative staff of the College.Every registrant of the College who is a resident of Ontario and has paid the annual fee is qualified to vote in Board elections held annually in August.

The Board of Directors is responsible for providing oversight and ensuring accountability for the overall performance of the Ontario College of Pharmacists, its composition and powers are set out under the Regulated Health Professions Act, Pharmacy Act and College By-Law respectively.The Board individually and collectively upholds their fiduciary duty of undivided loyalty and good faith to the mandate of their corporation (in the OCP case, regulating the pharmacy sector in the public interest) to put the College’s interests above all others when taking action and making decisions.

The Chair of the OCP Finance & Audit Committee:• Has the necessary skills and experience to clearly understand the operation and workings of the committee.• Provides direction and guidance to the Committee in keeping with Board-approved terms of referenceand related legislative or regulatory responsibilities.• Demonstrates effectiveness and skills in chairing, following and fulfilling expectations of meetingagendas; ensuring all voices are heard; and ensuring committee actions/decisions align with theCollege’s public interest mandate.• Works in partnership with appropriate staff resources towards:o Orientation and training of all new memberso Ongoing training and development opportunities for all memberso Development of the agendao Identifying policy issues to be brought forth for Committee’s considerationo Preparing reports and recommendations for presentation to Boardo Developing objectives and long-range plans for considerationo Identifying budget and business plan implications for the Registraro Considering seeking of legal advice on a matter, where necessary and appropriate• Encourages broad and constructive debate amongst members in achieving decisions or direction onrelevant matters.• Manages circumstances where Committee or Task Force function is less than optimum, includingintroducing strategies to resolve conflicts which may arise. In such circumstances, consultation withthe Board Chair may be of assistance.• Acts as the principal spokesperson for the Committee or Task Force in reporting to the Board at itsmeetings.• Raises matters arising in the broader environment to establish trends related to mandate with a viewto inform the Board about those that may require possible action.• Facilitates regular evaluation of Committee or Task Force members and processes to ensure high levelsof performance.• Demonstrates accountability for his/her own performance through engagement in an annual Chairevaluation.

After a long and successful career in the corporate franchised pharmacy world, I departed my store of 21 years to focus more on pharmacy professional services and less on retail. I was responsible for planning, executing and opening an independent practice that was patient-focused and provided a warm, inviting and professional atmosphere. The goal was to establish the pharmacy as a primary healthcare resource & provider within the community. Clinical focus on Long Term Care and geriatric pharmacy, working as a consultant for area LTC facilities since 1994. Certified for Smoking Cessation Therapy & prescribing and injection therapy. Received Certificate in Travel Health from the International Society of Travel Medicine in 2015 and commenced travel health consultations. Opened a Medically-supervised weight loss clinic in 2016. Both professional services expansions yielded outstanding results and patient acceptance.

As part of the University of Waterloo School of Pharmacy's innovative “Community of Practice” model for the new PharmD program’s clinical rotations, I am directly involved with the 4th year students' experiential learning component, PHM 430, PHM 440 and PHM 450.The Community of Practice model divides Ontario into 10 to 12 regions, each of which will have 10 to 15 students assigned to complete their three 8-week PharmD rotations in direct patient care. Each Community of Practice is lead by a part-time, locally centered "Regional Clinical Coordinator" who is also an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the School of Pharmacy.The part time Regional Clinical Coordinators help manage the Community of Practice in their region by recruiting and coordinating local preceptors, showcasing the region to prospective students, coordinating Community of Practice activities such as an orientation to the region and case discussions, and providing frontline assistance to preceptors and students.

As one of the most successful Shoppers Drug Mart pharmacies in Canada, the practice provides pharmacy and drugstore retail services to a catchment area of approximately 30,000 residents in a suburban/rural setting within Northern Durham Region. Managing, directing and engaging a staff of 68, with full accountability for all aspects of the practice, including professional services, sustainable growth and retail sales. Establishing the pharmacy as a primary healthcare resource & provider within the community. Reporting directly to the London Operations Area Office, I worked as a relief pharmacist covering staffing gaps (vacation, leave, illness) at all stores in the region. The position required scheduling flexibility and a requirement to adapt to different practice situations on a daily basis. Working at over 70 different pharmacies over a 3 year period, I was exposed to a wide variety of management scenarios which assisted in my preparation of managing my own pharmacy. From mid 1992 to 1994 I worked on special projects for the company, including a Medicine Cabinet Clean-up program and as a Pharmacy Operations troubleshooter, helping Pharmacist-Managers within the company to improve patient care, recognize new efficiencies and implement best practices to improve their pharmacy's performance.
