Doug Clark is involved in all aspects of civil litigation, with a strong focus on intellectual property litigation (including patents, trade secrets, copyrights, and trademarks). During his career he has brokered and facilitated the favorable settlements in several dozen matters.Doug has successfully argued before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) resulting in the invalidation of an opponent's patent. He won an arbitration regarding a contractual matter and an International Trade Commission (ITC) trial regarding vape pens. He has represented clients in diverse technology categories, including semiconductors, cell phones, digital content processing, MMS/SMS (multimedia messaging services/short message service), wireless communications, memory card readers, thumb drives, solar power, wire design, aircraft fire inerting systems, pharmaceutical cancer drugs, gene therapy, bovine vaccines, baby products, truck aerodynamics, exercise equipment, aircraft seating, and more.Prior to joining Jones Day, Doug was a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy where he completed the Navy's rigorous nuclear power program and qualified as a nuclear engineer. During his naval career, he addressed NATO allies at a NATO Submarine Conference in Portsmouth, England regarding submarine information sharing and connectivity; acted as a U.S. liaison officer with the Swedish Submarine Force to coordinate the first ever public visit of a Swedish submarine to the Mediterranean; and managed divisions of up to 45 men while on board the USS Columbus out of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.Doug is co-president of the Tom Homann LGBTQ+ Law Association, director/treasurer of SDIPLA (San Diego Intellectual Property Law Association), member of SDCBA (San Diego County Bar Association), former president of OCIPLA (Orange County Intellectual Property Law Association), and former director of OCLBA (Orange County Lavender Bar Association).
