Lead Software Engineer (& Dev Team Leader)
In this role I am Lead Software Engineer and also perform the role of Dev Team Leader so about a third of my time is doing leadership focused tasks such as improving team standards and systems, running agile meetings, peer reviews, mentoring, recruitment, PDPs and working closely with other team leads and senior management to ensure the Dev team members can complete their tasks successfully.I’m currently managing a team of 4 with 3 of these team members located remotely both in New Zealand and overseas. The other two thirds of my time is taken up with coding tasks consisting of a mixture of project work such as building or integrating with new APIs, sales reports, major new features in the sales CRM, website development, infrastructure and security improvements, and also various BAU tasks/issues as these arise on any given day.
Senior Developer
In this role I did back-end SilverStripe development as well as other development duties such as conducting peer reviews, working with project managers, designers, and contributing ideas for improving team standards and practices. Some SLA work for existing websites as well as working on the new builds.I had regular standup meetings where we used Kanban boards and Scrum to develop sites in sprints. Also I met regularly with clients to update them on the progress of projects. Client meetings normally involved a show-and-tell component where I would explain how to use the new features built and take their feedback.
Silverstripe Developer
Primarily a back-end developer in this role creating websites for various clients in conjunction with the designers and the front-end developers using the SilverStripe CMS and framework, including the Common Web Platform (CWP).Did quite a bit of JavaScript and jQuery, HTML, CSS, and API integrations. Gitlab, Bitbucket, and Github for code repository management and contributed to the Open Source initiative by writing new features for a few repos and creating my own.Regularly meeting and interacting with the clients (which I enjoyed), capturing and clarifying requirements, advising them and the project managers or BAs on possible solutions, providing support and training on the use of the websites we built and their features.Used the agile process for our projects and the team in general with daily stand ups, boards, sprints etc.
Developer
Trade Me bought the previous company I worked for so I worked for them in a group focused development projects for external clients including supporting the web applications developed for some Face clients that were retained. Most of my time was working on some large web-app projects for the public sector involving microservices, REST, Oauth2, MVC, reporting, and complex data migrations. Cross-platform mobile app development using Xamarin.Trade Me was an agile environment so I am familiar with scrum and Kanban.
Senior Developer
Completed a native smartphone application for a well known NZ brand and loyalty scheme using Xamarin studio and C#. This also included all the back-end 'phone server' stuff which the app talks with to load and save data.A year and half in this role was building a large project up from scratch using the Codeigniter MVC framework for a major public sector client. This involved doing all the database design and development, PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript programming. As part of this project I had to design and code a significant data migration to bring through selected data from the old system into the new one.I also created a number of websites for our clients by taking the static cut from our designer and building them over our CMS. As each client's needs were different this always involved altering existing or creating new CMS modules. This company was purchased by Trade Me in October 2014 and I continued as a developer for them.
It Developer
I mainly created web applications using PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript. Did some web-app-for-mobile development using jQueryMobile and started getting into HTML5 and CSS3 doing some interesting things with canvas.Being in the IT department we served all the companies in the ZGC group, I primarily worked with e-Blended Learning Solutions on a couple of large projects for primary and secondary school students which as well as coding the learning websites also involved setting up 30 netbooks with the software and settings required to connect to the websites and making visits to the schools.
Business Intelligence Developer
In this role I used Oracle Warehouse Builder to extract, transform and load (ETL) data from various source systems into the data warehouse and then on to the end user layer. Also did a lot of reporting using BI Publisher and web app development using Oracle APEX.
Software Developer
Development and maintenance of a large corporate web-app intranet using Perl, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript running on Oracle databases.
Web Applications Developer
Short web development contract. Used PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and MySQL to develop a database driven web application.
