CurrentSecurity Achieved through Functional Environmental Design or SAFE Design, is a standardized approach to physical security that reduces the risk and fear of crime and social disorder by design, policy, and placemaking. The SAFE Design Standard is the first standardized CPTED (Crime Prevention through Environmental Design) process founded on established CPTED principles. The Standard also follows the new ISO 22341 CPTED guidelines. The standard may be applied to buildings, sites, campuses, and other built environments to reduce the risk of crime. It may be used on both existing properties and new developments. On new developments, SAFE Design input is provided at key points in the design process including pre-design, schematic design, design development, and project completion. The proprietary SAFE Design Standard can only be applied by a SAFE Design Accredited Professional (SAFE AP) and used on projects registered with SAFE Design.
