Organised and/or led road rides for various experience levels three times per week (during academic terms). Enforced safety rules and ensured riders behaved in a manner that reflected the integrity of the club. Engaged in local cycling safety media production to promote both safer cycling and safer driving as an effort to ensure the safety of club members on local roads. Organised a training camp to the Lake District in June 2022 for 18 riders, including organising transport and catering.Assisted in the distribution of club kit including keeping track of payments.Worked alongside other committee members to ensure the club ran smoothly and reflected the University.

This was a virtual internship where I was involved in four main projects, with roles ranging from researching and writing, data analysis, mapping, presenting to clients, and recording minutes in meetings.The stand-out project on which I spent the most time, was commissioned by WWF South Africa, focussing on the status of groundwater policy and governance in Cape Town. My role primarily focused on developing a situational analysis, enveloping the current institutional and physical groundwater situation in Cape Town. On the institutional side, I mapped relationships between relevant institutions to develop an understanding of the institutional system and I created a summary of the policies and by-laws that mandate the involved institutions, simultaneously attempting to spot gaps in the institutional structure to use as a focus for improving groundwater management. Whilst my university experience has allowed me to develop scientific research skills, this was my first opportunity to read, process and present findings from legal and policy documents, and hence it was a steep learning curve. Additionally, I reviewed several other governance strategies in detail, notably those relating to ecology, monitoring and capacity building.My experience at OneWorld has given me valuable experience of working in a professional client facing environment from which I have gained new perspectives of writing and presentation of data for clients. This will supplement the scientific skills and writing style that I have developed at university. All my assignments at OneWorld have focussed on challenges facing Southern African countries which are very different from those to which I am familiar with in the UK. This internship has exposed me to a wide range of new sustainable development challenges and opportunities and provided me with new perspectives on life in a planet which is under increasing pressure.
