Douglas Wright is an environmental and sustainability policy consultant. His career spans over forty years, focusing on policy, strategic planning, institutional development, innovation, and environmental impact assessment. He has worked internationally and domestically on dozens of assignments within the public and private sectors. He has interacted with diverse stakeholders in government, academia, business and the NGO community. He is currently advising the Cambodian Ministry of the Environment on transforming its organizational structure and strategic plan to prepare for managing the pressures of rapid development and the threats of climate change on the nation's natural and heritage resources. At the Council of Canadian Academies in Ottawa he led assessments on shale gas development in Canada, energy prices, and on the potential for information and communications technologies to promote sustainability. At the Ontario Ministry of the Environment he directed the Innovations Branch where he led the development of a new strategic framework for the Ministry, and conceived a major program for promoting community innovation in water conservation and protection. At the Ontario Centres of Excellence he led a team in helping researchers and entrepreneurs commercialize innovative ideas, technologies and services. At the Nuclear Waste Management Organization he helped develop a process for selecting a site for the long-term management of Canada's used nuclear fuel. At the Commission for Environmental Cooperation of North America he directed the Commission's diverse continental work program. For over a decade, he was a founding partner of RFI, a successful Ottawa environmental policy consulting firm where he engaged in numerous policy-oriented environmental initiatives. He also worked for several years with Environment Canada, and as an environmental specialist with ESSO Resources Canada.
