Dr. Scheidt earned his PhD in counseling psychology from the University at Buffalo and his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Colgate University. Dr. Scheidt came to The College at Brockport in 1995 as a member of the Department of Health Science faculty. He served as chair of the department from 2003 until 2010. In January of 2010, he was appointed to Dean of the School of Education and Human Services. Prior to joining the faculty he was a associate psychologist at the Monsignor Carr Institute and a project director for the NIAAA funded Alcoholics in Treatment HIV Risk (ATRISK) Study. He has also worked as an independent consultant focusing on program development, implementation and evaluation.Throughout his career, Dr. Scheidt has conducted research and taught at the graduate and undergraduate levels, including courses on group counseling skills, evaluation, and assessment of alcohol and other drug abuse; issues and implications related to HIV/AIDS; theories of alcohol and drug abuse, psychopharmacology for the treatment of abuse of alcohol and other drugs. His research has been published in a number of professional journals including Addiction, Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior, Journal of Health Education, Psychology of Addictive Behavior, Journal of Studies on Alcohol, and the American Journal of Psychiatry. Research topics have included program evaluation, substance abuse, HIV/AIDS and nutrition.
