Software Architect

Frankfurt Am Main, Hessen, De

Worked in architecture team designing and leading implementation of data driven transformation BI projects in collaboration with lead architect and BI CIO. objectives were:- to enable uniform cross platform MIS reporting across the BI portfolio (Tableau, Business Objects, QlikView, Cognos)- simplify report delivery within the organisation in terms of both provision and consumption- support cost optimisation of platform service deliveryDeveloped full stack (including data modelling and database development), using: Oracle, Angular, Java (new to me)Designed architecture, determined technology stack, data modelled and rapid prototyped around areas of uncertainty. Excepting data storage we built for cloud using Openshift to host containerised microservices and hosting.I took on other responsibilities as necessary such as specifying stories in JIRA, organising our kanban board, and assigning development tasks.A highlight of this role was participating in the winning team for an inhouse machine learning competition (Dabble round 2, 10 teams); which we won despite starting from zero knowledge.

Sep 2017 - Jun 2018

Software Engineer

Frankfurt Am Main, Hessen, De

I worked in an agile scrum setting as a web UI developer using newer technologies to work on a bespoke knowledge visualisation framework. Most of the technology stack and working practices were new to me; so it was necessary for me to extend my skills rapidly.AngularJS, Angular, Javascript, Node JS, HTML, SCSS, CSS, MVC architectureI also:- assisted colleagues with data modelling problems and architectural advice- mentored junior developers- identified a security issue in an internal system and detailed resolution strategy- participated in an architecture working groupA particular highlight in this role was participating in a team that won awards in a global DB Hackathon event with over 400 people and 40-50 teams competing around the world. I contributed by building an Angular UI, advising on development strategy and coming up with innovative ideas for our entry. We won 1st place in "Most Innovative Use of Data" and came 3rd for "Best App Overall", meaning we got awards in 2 of 4 categories.

Aug 2016 - Sep 2017

Software Engineer

N/A-Freelance

Worked as a freelancer with a range of technologies:C#, SQL Server, ASP.NET, OOP, C++Some continued usage of technologies with significant prior experience:Delphi, VB, VBASpecifics varied based on client requirements; typically worked as a full stack developer with responsibility across full development cycle. A sampling of things I did:- SQL Server databases (developed and worked on existing)- C# WinForms applications (developed and worked on existing)- ASP.NET web applications (developed)- SOAP and RESTful web services (developed)- Delphi (worked on existing)- C++ (worked on existing unmanaged MFC era codebase; with no prior experience in language)- Collaborated with other developers (sometimes mentored), sometimes in other timezonesI focused on building and maintaining long term client relationships; where I could provide total solutions. In some instances I designed and developed systems composed of multiple different technologies (eg database, web service, web application, windows application) with responsibility across the full development cycle.

Mar 2011 - Aug 2016

Software Developer

Mansfield, Gb

Worked as full stack software developer in IT department supporting business providing warehousing, order fulfillment and digital print services. Developers delivered projects end to end, collectively supporting core business applications and doing client specific work.Technologies used: C#, SQL Server, OOP, ASP.NET, VBA, VB, Access/ExcelSome projects delivered included:- A system providing workflow, storage, accounting and auditing support for data and artwork relating to digital print activities. I designed a SQL Server database (>100 tables, some with millions of records) with a C# WinForms application providing a rights managed interface for users. Clicks were harvested automatically from Xerox digital print engines and the workflow integrated with an existing scheduling system (Prism).- Diagramming tool rendering high resolution artwork for print indicating how to arrange POS merchandise. Implemented in C# WinForms with configuration of store layouts stored in SQL Server database.- Complex variable data solutions; using VBA and VIPP to generate variably paginated variable data documents. At this time these were cutting edge solutions not readily available in the market.- Delivered cost save ~2m dollars via automation of print submission and configuration on a new client account that was severely compromising digital print production. I used VBA to locate documents within a file system, matching them to incoming orders and automatically configuring print setup and quantity using XPIF job tickets. A 24/7 task for 1-2 people and 2 print engines engines now took only 2-3 hours on a single engine. This was instrumental in the retention of a high value client.Other things I did:- worked on core business databases (SQL Server) and systems (VBA, C#)- online ordering support (ASP.NET)- numerous short notice customer projects (various technologies)- accompanied account managers on customer visits where IT input was required
