After leaving teaching to pursue my interest in engineering, I graduated from Eastern Washington University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a desire to join a company that is excited about leading their field into the future, and one that values employees for their hard work. I feel the theoretical knowledge I added to my world experience improves my marketability and I am excited to see what I can do for myself and for my employer.I have spent the last year and a half engrossing myself in the world of engineering in a role as a quality engineering technician and have learned more than I expected about the world of manufacturing, quality and design. My growing understanding of the importance of good communication in the workplace has shown me that good people are the engine that drives any company to success. My time spent as an intern brought my theoretical knowledge into the real world where I designed, built, and modified tools for a laser manufacturing company. Using the experience of professional engineers and machinists to grow my understanding of the products and machinery, increased my ability to streamline the creation process for each part or tool I created. Several more projects completed through collaboration and hands on experience gave me confidence in my ability to fail fast, learn quickly and move toward the goal more knowledgeable and better prepared.I completed my senior capstone project in which my team removed a heavy rigid ramp system from a flat-bed truck and replaced it with a hydraulic bi-fold ramp which was designed and built by my team. I personally designed half of the components and conducted Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on all parts and assemblies before fabrication began. Once in the fabrication process, I was the construction lead and made sure the project was completed on time and to specifications. This hands-on approach kept me involved in all machining and construction of the ramp and led to great understanding about the importance of communication and teamwork in all stages of design and build.
