Represented approximately 1000 indigent misdemeanor criminal defendants appointed by municipal court judges (Renton, Issaquah, Woodinville, Kirkland, Redmond) in all pre-trial, trial, and post-trial litigation. Advised and counseled individuals on court procedures and requirements as well as a basic understanding of the criminal justice system, applicable court rules, statutes, and case law. Assisted clients with identifying appropriate rehabilitative services for substance use disorders and mental health disorders to include screening for Regional Mental Health Court, Regional Veterans Court, and LEAD/REACH services. Zealously advocated for clients facing Chapter 10.77 RCW proceedings related to competency to stand trial. Responsible for coordinating and supervising training of 33-person advisor team in skills necessary to advise foreign military forces. Worked on a daily basis with Afghan counterpart to ensure training of personnel was conducted in order to prepare for combat operations in Southern Helmand Province. Supervised Afghan officers as they developed operational plans for battalion and brigade level operations. Instructed Afghans on best practices of leadership, subordinate development, and maintaining positive morale during sustained operations. Studied basic Dari and Afghan/Islamic culture to build trust and to effectively mentor and train Afghan officers. Supervised and liaised with U.S. Government contractors on $90M new-build facility to meet the operational requirements of the Brigade in garrison. Developed plan to reduce build schedule by four months and saved $3M in costs.

Lean Six Sigma/Continuous Process Improvement Green Belt trained. Spent extensive hours with command sections to map out processes and procedures to identify and eliminate waste while improving efficiency in operations and increase morale of personnel. Managed high-visibility projects for the Commanding General. Temporarily assigned as acting Squadron Executive Officer accounting for all administrative and training milestones necessary for pre-deployment of squadron personnel to Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

NIMS/ICS trained. Lead planner of depot-wide anti-terrorism/force protection exercise to test the capabilities of the emergency response management system. At the time, the exercise was the largest emergency response exercise conducted at any Marine Corps Installation worldwide. Coordinated planning guidance for over 500 participants, including: first responders, support personnel, role-players, exercise controllers, and evaluators. Developed a nearly 50-page after action report that captured the lessons learned, strengths, and critical vulnerabilities necessary to establish plans, policies and procedures to enhance emergency preparedness of the Depot for an all-hazards emergency.

Provided mentorship, guidance, and counseling on a weekly basis to a veteran in the deferred court program faced with bi-weekly court hearings and review of probation and treatment requirements as established by the Court. Attended hearings at San Diego Superior Court and made recommendations to VTRC Team including members of District Attorney’s Office, Public Defender’s Office, County Probation Office, and Veterans Service Organizations.

Reviewed appellate briefs and trial records to draft bench memoranda for oral arguments in criminal cases. Summarized testimony from 2500 pages of trial transcripts in a contracts case for review by the staff attorneys.

Platoon commander for 37 Marines. Assistant Staff Officer on one of the Marine Corps’ seven Marine Expeditionary Units that provide a forward-deployed presence throughout the world. Responsible for developing, conducting, and supervising all training for communications personnel. Directly responsible for multi-layered communications systems to support 2200 Marines across three subordinate commands aboard Navy ships as well as forward-deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Coordinated fiscal planning and development of communications budget in order to acquisition commercial communications equipment to further command and control capabilities in support of operational requirements.

Responsible for welfare, training, and discipline of 25 Marines. Managed supply account and equipment in excess of $2M. Provided operational direction to communications platoon regarding all planning, installation, operation, and maintenance of communications equipment, including: satellite, multichannel, and single-channel radio, wire and switchboard, and data network systems. Accountable for the inventory of all controlled cryptographic items and encryption equipment and materials. Served as Systems Control Watch Officer responsible for ensuring all communications systems and multiple data networks (classified and unclassified) were operational for the unit commander and his staff, supporting up to 400 Marines and Sailors. Deployed in support of tactical and regional strategic exercises in the Philippines, Thailand, and South Korea.

Provided direction and operational guidance to five platoon commanders within company. Advised company commander on capabilities and deficiencies of personnel and equipment. Formulated robust communications architecture for 100-person communications detachment in support of Group-wide exercises. Supervised the utilization of over $10M of equipment and over 200 Marines. Ensured operation and maintenance budget was efficiently managed to support all required exercises and operations as well as identified and coordinated with higher and adjacent units to find solutions to any budget deficiencies.
