I have been active in the water industry since 1996. Prior to my water days, I spent four very educational years in the United States Marine Corps as an 81mm (0341) Mortarman and had the wonderful opportunity to have traveled and explored many different cultures and countries. After military service, I attended Community West and Technical College. I then started my career in water with the Red Rock Rural Water System. My first duties included obtaining utility easements, coordinating new customer routing and inspecting new water main installation. Growing with a newer system, I have seen many aspects of the highs and lows a water utility can experience (growing pains). During my tenure with Red Rock, I also learned water treatment operations and performed operation & maintenance of the distribution system as well as obtaining a water operator’s licensure. I currently hold a Minnesota Class “A” water operator’s license as well as an Iowa Grade IV Treatment and Grade IV Distribution Licenses. I am also commissioned as a Notary Public in Iowa.I have served in the past by being a volunteer Fire Fighter and an Emergency Medical Technician for over ten years. I was also a School Board Director in Minnesota and was Vice President of the Board before moving to Iowa. I currently serve on the Legislative and Scholarship Committees for the Iowa Rural Water Association, and sit on the Board of Adjustments for the City of Wahpeton, IA In addition, I recently participated in Class III of the American Water Works Association (Iowa Section) Leadership Institute. Lastly, I participated in the MARL (Minnesota Ag & Rural Leadership) Program. This two-year program includes agricultural, business, civic, government, and organization leaders in Minnesota, who participate in a series of nine in-state seminars, a national study tour, and an international study tour. Our class had the unique opportunity to spend ten days in the Republic of Cuba!

0341 - MortarmanUnited States Marine Corps Jun 1992 - Jun 1996WorldwideAttending Boot Camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, CA, I successfully became a Marine! Following Boot Camp, I attended the School of Infantry in Camp Pendleton, CA and became an 0341 (81MM Mortarman) and was stationed at Camp Horno (inside Camp Pendleton) as a part of 1st Marines/1st Division (1st of the 1st!). After being stateside for about six months, our unit was deployed to Okinawa, Japan for six months. While there, we did take a month-long boat ride to Hong Kong, China. (This was back when Hong Kong was still under British rule) While here, I did purchase of set of "china" and had it shipped back home and it all made it without a broken dish! Once back stateside, our unit trained for about a year before deploying to Southeast Asia aboard the USS Peleliu (LHA-5). One of our first stops was the United Arab of Emirates (UAE) before deploying to Saudi Arabia to participate in Operation Southern Watch. Our unit patrolled the border of Iraq and performed live fire exercises as a show of force to keep Saddam Hussein from coming back into Saudi Arabia. After a month and a half of patrolling the Iraqi border, we boarded ship and traveled to Singapore, Thailand, Philippines and Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. After eight months of traveling, we finally arrived back home the port of San Diego. During my stint in the Marines while stateside we did also get to travel to 49 Palms in the Joshua Tree National Park to train at the Marine Corp Air Ground Combat Center for a month as well another month of training at the Air Station in Yuma, Arizona
