Doug Barrett is a veteran of the Canadian production and broadcast media industries. From the 80s to the early 2000s, he was a leading media and entertainment lawyer, repeatedly listed by the legal directory LEXPERT as one of Canada’s 500 Leading Lawyers. For most of the 2000’s, he was the President & CEO of one of Canada’s largest professional motion picture equipment rental houses with operations in Halifax, Toronto and Vancouver. In May, 2013, he arranged the sale of the company to the Sim Group of companies and stepped down as CEO. Following the sale, he launched barcode SDG, focusing on strategic and governance advice.From 2008 to 2017 he held an endowed academic Chair at the Schulich School of Business of York University in Toronto in the Arts, Media & Entertainment MBA Program. As of July 1, 2017 he is an Adjunct Professor in the same Program and continues teaching duties. From 2004 to 2008 he was Chair of the Canadian Television Fund’s Board of Directors, having served as a Board member from 1994 to 1996, and legal counsel from 1996 to 2004. The Fund (now called the Canada Media Fund) is the principal mechanism for the support of Canadian television production and annually manages over $400 million. Throughout his career, Doug has served on numerous for-profit and not-for-profit boards of directors.
