I am an award-winning editor and writer helping to tell compelling stories and experienced at working with diverse personalities. I work diplomatically with clients to provide editing, writing and production services to meet their needs and keep projects on track.

I oversaw editing and production of the Foundation’s publications, including Western Water, the online magazine where I expanded storytelling techniques using interactive graphics, videos and other features. I also edited the Foundation’s other publications and managed its website, social media channels and email outreach. I managed the Foundation’s online store and expanded the marketing of its publications, taking advantage of key events or calendar dates to drive product sales. I led the effort to build an interactive story map on the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta using Arcgis Online to provide a richer experience for anyone wanting to learn more about California’s vital but challenged water hub. I have also produced books of symposium proceedings and a history book for a Northern California water district.

I'm an experienced editor and content producer. I directed coverage of breaking news, edited stories from reporters with a range of experience, from seasoned pros to student writers, managed online content and social media channels and collaborated with photographers and news desk staffers to meet deadlines. I trained and mentored student writers who worked our evening breaking news shifts. On major stories I served as a rewrite person, assembling a lead story from dispatches filed by reporters in the field. I introduced and experimented with new tools for our newsroom, including Document Cloud, Timeline.js, Datawrapper and other digital tools to amplify the storytelling. I also used data skills to compile databases of public salaries, graduation rates and other data to present online. An interactive online timeline I compiled of Yosemite’s 150 years as a park was part of a Fresno Bee special report that won a McClatchy President’s Award for 2014.

I spent a year (1998-99) as a media fellow with the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, examining California's health care safety net. I served as a fill-in assignment editor and handled rewrite on several major stories, including the wildfires that burned more than 1,000 homes in and around San Bernardino.
