I have 20+ years as a teacher/trainer. Published writer/journalist with vast experience working with the media both on and off camera. Dependable and organized team player with the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently both orally and in writing. Skilled at building relationships with employees across all levels of an organization. Determined problem solver who looks at the bright side of challenges and is determined to find solutions. As an elementary school physical education teacher, I wanted all students to better themselves physically and set up my program so that students had fun learning different skills and experience different activities. I encouraged students and their families to view physical fitness as an important part of their lives. Additionally, I started an after-school journalism program at Hilltop Drive Elementary. I am a life-long learner and enjoy learning new things and developing new skills. I feel very blessed to have been able to serve my nation for nearly 25 years in the Navy and more than 19 years as an elementary school teacher. My recent passion is photography and In September of 2023, I graduated with a Certificate in Digital Photography from Sessions College of Professional in Design. Developed and implemented standards-based physical education curriculum and served as a role model for more than one-thousand elementary students (grades K-6) each year from 2006-2019. Used a variety of instructional strategies and interactive activities that motivated students to actively participate and make healthy choices in their lives. Ensured English Language Learners and students with special education needs were included and successful in lessons and activities. Designed physical education classes that were both effective and fun for the students and reduced the number of students in the obesity and overweight categories by almost 20 percent.Boosted the number of students passing the 5th grade fitness test by more than 15 percent.Created a Physical Education podcast entitled, “The PE Clipboard” to help hundreds of classroom teachers improve teaching physical education. Hosted and served as the interviewer for the podcast which featured the district’s Director of Physical Education and the Physical Education Resource Teacher.Pioneered and served as the teacher for physical education training videos on fundamental motor skills such as throwing, catching, kicking, punting, and dribbling that are used on the district’s physical education video channel. These videos help both physical education teachers and classroom teachers with their instruction. Authored (in 2019) a major portion of a district Physical Education Handbook to help district physical education teachers and classroom teachers provide standards-based instruction to their students. Initiated, designed and taught an after school journalism program for 5th and 6th grade students that resulted in a school on-line newspaper. Served as editor and maintained the newspaper throughout the school year to provide students the opportunity to hone their skills as journalists.Coached Co-Ed 4th, 5th, and 6th grade basketball teams for several seasons.

Authored a Shipboard Collateral Duty Public Affairs Handbook that was used throughout the Pacific Fleet. Won four Navy Thompson-Ravitz Awards during this tour of duty. The Thompson-Ravitz Awards are given for excellence in Public Affairs and recognize the most exceptional performance by individuals and units in public affairs throughout the Navy.
