SiCortex was an innovative HPC startup company founded by the late Dr. John Mucci (formerly Thinking Machines) and several other microprocessor architects from Intel and Digital Equipment Corporation (notably the Alpha microprocessor). It featured a unique 6 core System on a Chip (SoC) design using a licensed MIPS RISC Instruction set. Very power efficient (each core consumed only 650 milliwatts) it was also very scaleable using the advanced Kautz topology for processor interconnect. It was truly a decade ahead of anything else in development at that time. I sold a number of SiCortex high processor count computers and Lustre-based Parallel Storage Systems into Higher Education institutions from Texas to North Carolina.
