Integrin was founded to exploit opportunities in the marine biotechnology sector. The company had a service arm focussed mainly on seafood safety and a research arm that looked at developing areas of interest including: marine drug discovery ; invertebrate cell culture; adding value to industrial marine waste streams and biotechnology of bacterial symbionts. During my time as CEO, the company won two awards: both for innovation (SCDI 2003 award for innovation in the Life Sciences; 2006 Highlands and Islands “Best award”). Participated in a number of EU and EUREKA research programmes. I grew the company from two employees to around 20, with a turnover of ~£800K by 2006. Integrin acquired the veterinarian testing company Biobest in 2007, bringing the Group to ~50 employees and a turnover of close on £3M. Non executive Director of Fusion between 2005-2007.
