I am a Board Director, Committee Chair and Member and Partner/General Counsel level lawyer with twenty years of board level experience across the legal, banking and financial services, aviation, property and film sectors.In an executive capacity, I have thirty years’ experience in international finance and commercial law, derived from top tier law firms and blue-chip in-house positions in Sydney, London and New York. I also have significant commercial experience, including management of legal and tax teams and management of significant strategic projects relating to changing business operating models within the financial services sector. I currently hold the part-time roles of Director and Public Officer for Investec Australia. Over the course of my seventeen years’ involvement with Investec, I have had extensive participation in a variety of governance, risk and other committees and forums, with C-suite and other executives, as a presenter, member and chair. My legal experience includes aircraft and general asset finance, film finance, other structured finance, fund finance, general secured lending (including acquisition finance, resource finance and infrastructure finance), private and public investments, private and public M&A, restructuring, regulatory, risk and governance, tax and transfer pricing, general commercial matters including workplace health and safety, privacy and data protection. At board level, I drive the achievement of commercial objectives from a position of robust risk management, by considering issues from a position of deep personal integrity and ensuring that effective risk management principles and practices are in place. I have a Master of Arts (Honours) in Economics and a Foundations Module, Graduate Diploma of Applied Tax Law. This included acting as the primary contact for APRA, ASIC and the ATO, writing the initial three year business plan for the branch, collating and submiting the APRA application and overseeing the preparation of all policy documentation. This enabled Investec Australia to face the Australian market as an APRA and PRA/FCA regulated, UK-listed investment grade bank. - I led the restructuring of the entire Investec Australia business in 2014, as chair of the Steering Committee and project leader - the restructure was the primary condition precedent to the sale of Investec Bank (Australia) Limited to Bank of Queensland and the divestment of Investec Australia’s medical and asset finance businesses plus associated deposit book.- Acting as chairman of the Due Diligence Committee for the Investec Australia Emerging Companies Fund. - Membership of the Investec Australia Conduct and WHS Committees and acting as Privacy Officer.
