I am seeking the Assistant Principal or Dean of Students position. My employment in education spans 18 years, across Tennessee. Currently, I have been employed with Williamson County Schools for twelve years. During my tenure, I have served at Brentwood High School (BHS) and the Central Office. Both experiences, as well as, experiences in the community have shaped my leadership philosophy. Those experiences have given me a tremendous amount of excitement in knowing my children are growing up in a community with so many opportunities. Living in Williamson County I fully see the benefits our children have when it comes to social emotional health. As a little league baseball coach and flag football coach, in Nolensville, I value working with parents and kids, building relationships which foster healthy social and emotional behaviors. Experiences in community sports have a profound impact on student behaviors. Through coaching I can assist parents with difficult situations involving their child’s social emotional well-being. Social emotional well-being is an important topic in education. Recently, I participated in the NEA/TEA, Teacher Leadership Institute (TLI) learning various leadership strategies. Through this opportunity I was able to design a professional development which focused on addressing the prevalence of student anxiety in high achieving schools. As a team we discussed various, research based, strategies to assist students in coping with anxiety. The overall outcome of the PD, where change was needed, focused on the quality of relationships between teacher and students. This is an example of how look outside the district for solutions.Data driven decisions with a growth mindset are an important part of my leadership philosophy. As a leader I turn towards research and personal experiences when change is necessary. Developing relationships allows a culture to embrace change, together. As your assistant principal I will work relentlessly to build relationships with all stakeholders, as change is inevitable with a growth mindset. As a member of the community I have experienced change as a teacher and parent. Being able to see both sides of the isle has helped my decision making in leadership roles.
