About Doug Chalmers

I am a professional in the interdisciplinary field of water resources management. Currently, I work with the Water Group of the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI). I am based out of Seattle, WA and also remain deeply connected with our Davis, CA team. My background includes both the technical and social elements of water resources management, including modeling, policy, and conflict mediation. I am currently working on several projects across the Pacific Northwest, California and around the globe to develop decision-support tools for water managers. My hope is to support policies which effectively balance water supplies across competing human and aquatic habitat needs. Not an easy task, but an important one.I am experienced with building water models in WEAP, SEI's own water modeling software, and also host SEI's worldwide online WEAP trainings. WEAP is a platform which excels in integrating diverse components together in one system- climate, agriculture, cities, ecology, land use, policies. In this way, WEAP accurately depicts the -often challenging- reality of water resources management. We all rely on water as a common resource.I am interested in opportunities related to integrated water resources management, environmental flows, decision-support, stakeholder engagement, WEAP, and conflict management. I enjoy helping in California, am eager to become more involved in the Pacific Northwest, and am passionate about knowledge exchange to help in other locations around the world as well.
