Doug has bonded over $62.5 billion in construction projects for over 5,100 contractors over his career. After earning his BS in Finance from University of Utah in 1986, he led both the Michigan and Texas Regional Travelers (Aetna) offices to record results including acquiring the #2 Contractor on the ENR 400. Doug made Colorado his permanent home in 1993 and was a top surety producer for a regional and national broker for 12 years prior to forming Surescape in 2005. At Willis (HRH) Doug was a top 10 national producer eight consecutive years and ran the third largest surety brokerage in the U.S. with 18 full time employees. Intensely focused on efficiency, Surescape (a surety only agency) has grown to a larger volume with only seven employees and is recognized as a nationwide Best Practices agency multiple years running. Doug has been an owner/partner in several construction companies and received national recognition for service to the construction and surety industries and is a regular presenter on surety, economic and construction industry topics such as “The Next Big Crash”, “Contract Review”, “Underwriting Difficult Risks”, “Design-Build” and “Environmental Bonding” for industry association members, contractors and public/private owner groups. He is co-owner of CRS Insurance Brokerage, a respected regional insurance broker with 65 employees. Doug has served on various boards of directors including several national bonding companies, construction companies and a five year term including Associate Chair for Colorado Contractors Association, the Heavy/Highway AGC Chapter in Colorado.
