I’ve been an investment banker for over three decades serving entrepreneurs, private business owners and corporations. I work primarily with growth and technology companies because I find tremendous satisfaction in advising those who’ve taken great personal risk to start and grow their businesses. The services I provide include advising on mergers and acquisitions and raising capital. However, the greatest value I bring is the strategic and financial positioning advice that helps my clients achieve their goals. I’m also very active in supporting nonprofits and society. I’ve been associated with Chimes Baltimore for 30+ years and am currently helping the Baltimore Curriculum of Care set up a new nonprofit to end homelessness in the region. I serve on the board of my late uncle's foundation, Schmidt Vocal Arts, the premier organization supporting high school and college age classical singers through awards, training and college scholarships. While the journey to where I am today is unconventional, it's responsible for the values I bring to my work and community contributions. After college, I spent three years exploring/learning in Asia and Africa. I rode a motorcycle the length of Africa, sailed on a tall ship around the Cape of Good Hope, traversed Borneo overland from east to west, climbed in the Himalayas and Kilamanjaro, interviewed the Dalai Lama, spent 11 days in a dugout canoe in Okavango Swamp and had many more life-changing adventures. Upon returning to the U.S., I plowed back into graduate school, and my first jobs were in Chicago and then Wall Street with the M&A group at the notorious Drexel Burnham Lambert. After leadership positions in two Baltimore investment banks and a venture capital firm, I founded the investment banking firm Chessiecap in 2004.
