Here at Outside, I've worked on all of our products in some capacity, from Commerce to Content, Events to Maps. My goal is to be a Swiss Army Knife for the Organization and a force multiplier to all of our Engineers.As Principal Engineer, my role has several functions: Architecture, Development, Optimization, Technical Leadership.My deliverables are typically RFCs, Proof of Concepts, MVPs, standing up new teams. As the first engineer in, I select technologies, set up projects, build stage and production CI/CD pipelines, and write a lot of code. I work with my VP of Engineering to bring on the right team members at the right time, allowing for good developer continuity as the product transitions to production.I deep dive into into difficult or priority technical challenges as they come up. I embed with an existing team, help sus out root cause issues, and work with the team to plan and develop fixes. The process typically starts with better application telemetry using Datadog and Sentry, followed by architectural review and possible refactor work.I work with our area Principal and Staff Engineers as a technical sounding board, providing advice, direction, and opinions to them.
