Here at Outside, I've worked on all of our products in some capacity, from Commerce to Content, Events to Maps. My goal is to be a Swiss Army Knife for the Organization and a force multiplier to all of our Engineers.As Principal Engineer, my role has several functions: Architecture, Development, Optimization, Technical Leadership.My deliverables are typically RFCs, Proof of Concepts, MVPs, standing up new teams. As the first engineer in, I select technologies, set up projects, build stage and production CI/CD pipelines, and write a lot of code. I work with my VP of Engineering to bring on the right team members at the right time, allowing for good developer continuity as the product transitions to production.I deep dive into into difficult or priority technical challenges as they come up. I embed with an existing team, help sus out root cause issues, and work with the team to plan and develop fixes. The process typically starts with better application telemetry using Datadog and Sentry, followed by architectural review and possible refactor work.I work with our area Principal and Staff Engineers as a technical sounding board, providing advice, direction, and opinions to them. At PBS I led the technical development of 3 digital properties for the Education division: PBS Teachers, PBS TeacherLine, PBS LearningMedia. I worked with PBS for 7 years as a consultant and a full time employee managing 17 staff in 2 teams.The Technology Stack at PBS included Python, MySQL, and AWS. The websites were developed on the Django Framework, with jQuery and Backbone.js on the front-end. Our AWS deployment used EC2, S3, CloudFront, RDS, SQS, and OpsWorks.

Founded and ran a website design and development firm building bespoke web applications for our clients, including shopping carts, order management, and manufacturing planning.Our technology stack included Python, PostgreSQL, AWS, and Rackspace.Over several years my consulting relationship with PBS grew stronger, which led to less time spent on my own business. After 10 years of providing quality solutions to our clients, we closed our doors as I transitioned back into the corporate workforce.
