I oversaw insurance, credit cards, banking, investing, mortgages/loans, taxes and consumer finance teams for this Forbes personal finance brand, one of the leading providers of consumer financial information worldwide. My many duties included logistical planning; setting policies and procedures; providing editorial advice and support; writing automated articles; and, as chief copy editor, auditing the financial services content for style, accuracy and SEO, to make sure it was worthy of the Forbes brand.

My content strategy and passion for quality built and grew this startup's personal finance brand, MoneyWise, into a competitive player in North America. Under my editorial leadership, our small team was able to draw attention from USA Today, The New York Times, CNBC.com, Patch.com, U.S. News & World Report, ABC Radio and Bloomberg Radio, among others, and attract editorial partnerships with MSN.com, Yahoo Finance, The San Diego Union Tribune, Apple News and Canada's Postmedia.

I conceived and assigned mortgage and financial planning (including taxes and retirement) content, and edited the finished stories, making sure they were organized effectively, presented information clearly and accurately, and adhered to AP style and SEO best practices. I cultivated relationships with media partners and recommended Bankrate content for their sites, often scoring key placements that resulted in millions of valuable page views. I supervised all headline writing for Bankrate and was known for my own attention-getting heads. I was responsible for all routine day-to-day content scheduling and planned out a longer-term calendar of special content, including surveys, studies and sponsorships. I wrote sponsorship pitches, managed Bankrate's budget for public opinion surveys and helped write the survey questions.I supervised up to eight employees, including copy editors, page designers, a data editor, a freelance-content editor and a newsletter editor. I oversaw all headline writing, directed the creation of graphics and advised on the selection of images for stories. I assisted with Bankrate's transition from a freelance-heavy operation to one more reliant on staff reporters, a change that saved substantial amounts of money. I recorded weekly radio features (the "Bankrate Personal Finance Minute") syndicated by CBS Radio.

I assigned insurance stories to both staff and freelance writers and fine-tuned their finished work, plus I developed special projects on insurance topics. These included: research studies, such as an annual survey of car insurance discounts advertised on insurers' websites; and a monthly public opinion survey about health insurance and Obamacare (the "Health Insurance Pulse") which ran throughout 2014.Special content I developed on non-insurance topics included: an exclusive Halloween price index; and a weekly feature on celebrity cars that were on the market.

I was the first-line editor for AP content written in Ohio, plus I wrote my own bylined stories for statewide, national and international audiences. I got published on major websites including USAToday.com, Yahoo and The Huffington Post, and in newspapers across the U.S., such as the Chicago Sun-Times and the Dallas Morning News.I oversaw AP multimedia content from Ohio, including audio, video, and online slideshows. For the AP Radio Network, I wrote, produced and hosted daily, nationally syndicated radio features “ConsumerWatch” and “BusinessMinute.” I also anchored live business newscasts on the network and reported spot news stories from locations including the Federal Trade Commission, the New York Stock Exchange and the Federal Communications Commission. For AP’s national broadcast wire, I wrote consumer and business stories and summaries used by CNBC, CNN and other national media.
