I worked for the department of high-speed dynamic rotor balancing. Rotor balancing is an important maintenance procedure performed on rotor systems. Rotor balancing is an important maintenance procedure performed on rotor systems. Research is done on the balancing of overhung rotors and a numerical model is created with ROSS Rotordynamics software. Experimental results are obtained from a physical balancing process of an overhung compressor rotor, balanced in a test bunker of VDL Energy Systems. In addition to the numerical model of the test rotor, a mathematical model in Python is created, based on the modal balancing method. The purpose of the mathematical model is to calculate the correction masses and phases needed for balancing the numerical rotor, without physically having to balance it in the bunker. This way the amount of balancing runs can be reduced, and wear of balancing equipment and rotors can be limited. Show less
