Managing Director, Portfolio Manager - Opportunistic Investments
CurrentMr. Heyman leads Opportunistic Investments within BlackRock’s Global Fixed Income (GFI) division. GFI manages ~$2.5 trillion of assets across a complex of funds. The Opportunistic Investment Group (OIG) draws from ~15 vehicles that collectively manage ~$150 billion of assets. While the vast majority of GFI activity targets public and liquid investments, Mr. Heyman's team focuses on unique private and illiquid market opportunities, which offer less correlated returns and elevated yields. The OIG's mandate is broad, global in scope and sector-agnostic. The team benefits from its flexibility to invest across asset classes, including corporate, real estate, structured credit, and specialty finance. Borrowers range in size from middle market businesses, to bulge bracket corporates, and span from early stage to mature operations. The team invests across the capital structure, and has a preference for yield-generating assets. However, a portion of the portfolio is composed of more equity-like exposure. As the team's investment approach is opportunistic in nature (bottoms up), to evaluate deal fundamentals, market trends, and relative value, Mr. Heyman draws on his team's resources across the globe, including local BlackRock research analysts. He coordinates various internal specialists, to build consensus on proposed transactions, which allows the Opportunistic Investment group to tackle a broad mandate with conviction and credibility.Mr. Heyman leverages his global network to lead the team's origination strategy, and he is responsible for deal pipeline execution, building strategic partnerships, and enhancing the group's market presence as an ambassador for the firm. He also serves as a member of the Opportunistic Investment Committee, he leads business planning and recruiting efforts, and he works closely with various internal platforms, including marketing, legal, tax, financial crime, capital markets, client service, and others.
