The Property Crimes Unit works proactively within the community by communicating with businesses, neighborhood watch groups, and other government entities in an effort to successfully curb property crimes. The Property Crimes Unit aggressively targets criminals who commit these acts by utilizing the newest technology and investigative techniques to ensure the community does not fall victim to these types of crimes.

The Financial Crime Unit is responsible for the investigation of crimes against property such as burglary, theft, criminal damage, arson, vehicle theft and environmental crimes. The detectives review police reports generated by patrol officers, help in developing leads in various cases, and conduct surveillance to assist in solving property crimes. The detectives coordinate with other agency detectives in order to identify suspects and to coordinate efforts to apprehend those suspects.

Primary Duty Unit: Traffic Bureau. Assigned to a dynamic unit that handles Vehicle Enforcement, Speed, Case Load, and Traffic Fatalities in a city with a population of 100,000+. Respond to Serious/Fatal accidents on-call 24/7-365 days. Exceed a caseload of 50 active cases a month. Cases reach from City Misdemeanor/felony to State District Attorneys Office with Felony Screenings. Collateral Assignment; Police Recruitment Unit: To identify and seek highly motivated candidates to join a progressive and cutting edge department. Background Investigations: Interviewing employers, co-workers,neighbors, law enforcement officials, military personnel, members of the candidates’ family andpersonal references; prepares reports on findings; makes recommendations as to the backgroundfindingsHonor Guard: The main purpose of the Honor Guard is to honor and stand watch over law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The Honor Guard also represents the West Valley City Police Department in formal ceremonies such as color guard, parades, casket watches, funerals, retirements, and civic events. The Honor Guard represents the ultimate pride in the law enforcement profession and its goal is to present a positive and professional image to the public.
