Chartered Civil/Structural Engineer Four seasons hotel project designed by IAA structural engineers has just been approved to go to site in May 2021 in Ikoyi Lagos. The first four seasons hotel in Nigeria. Abuja-NLNG Head Office Dev. Port Harcourt - NDIC HQ IKOYI. We are specialist structural engineering consultant experienced in tall buildings under linear and non linear dynamic loading. We also design very usual buildings with long span using both traditional and conventional methods. For example Famfa head office in Ikoyi has majorly 14m clear span and is designed using traditional methods. The building is curvilinear so there are many transfer structures incorporated . Most of them are 14m span carrying very heavily loaded vertical loads. There is also 14m by 14m helipad deck at the top which has to be designed against vibration and keeping resonance within limit. Very interesting and challenging project. Another interesting project is intercontinental hotel at Victoria Island Lagos where we have triple basement in an area that is water logged and very close to the Atlantic Ocean. This has been successfully done as there hasn’t been any leakage ever since the project was commissioned. The project is 26 floors with 17 upper floors in curvilinear shape while the lower section is rectilinear. In other to keep the upper floors columns to be independent of the lower floor columns we introduced a transfer slab in between to act as the transition floor but at that time no single contractor in Nigeria was able to build it and as a result we had to allow the columns to pass through where possible. The banquet hall has a flat roof of 32m column free designed in post tension and the owner decided to convert the open space on top for outdoor event centre. AfricanRE head office building in Abuja is another very interesting and challenging building with 18m cantilevered roof structure away from the body of the building without any support. The building is also tapering out so most of the vertical elements are designed slanting with all the tangential forces absorbed by the horizontal elements using diaphragm action.
