About Aditi Kumar

Dr Aditi Kumar completed her PhD from the School of Arts & Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi on ‘Memorializing displacement: Images, Objects and Visual Histories of the Contested Regions of Jammu and Kashmir’. Her current research focuses on how family photographs and biographical objects reflect and shape experiences of displacement, exile and migration.Dr Kumar has a keen interest in postcolonial theory, identity formations in the nation-states and their reflections through visual cultures of the Global South. Apart from this she also has keen interest in the commemorative practices, monuments and shrines belonging to marginalised communities, both displaced and Diaspora. Most recently, she has been working with the Pakistan Administered Jammu & Kashmir communities that are settled in the UK.Through journal articles, she is in the process of materialising and contributing to the wider fields of Partition Studies, Migration Studies, Postcolonial Studies and Visual Studies in South Asia and beyond. She is also working on an upcoming book based on memories of migration, exile, displacement and material culture. Her aim is to make her research available for wider audiences and contribute to the ongoing decolonisation debates that inform both South Asian identities and global politics today.
