Dr Ioannou was appointed as the Technical Committee (TC) Member in ISO/TC 197 Hydrogen Technologies as the Cyprus delegation. The Scope of this Committee is the standardisation of large scale hydrogen energy systems and applications including aspects of testing, certification, sustainability and placement, and coordination with other relevant standardization bodies and stakeholders.TCs are the key bodies of standardization, who are responsible for the development and drafting of standards which are then ratified by European Standards Organisations. Only representatives of National Standardisation Bodies have the right to vote in the Technical Committee. TCs are composed by experts in a specific field representing national committees, industry, professional associations, government, trade union and other stakeholders.

The Cyprus Organization for Standardisation (CYS) has created a national technical committee to identify and develop the national needs in hydrocarbons. The technical committee CYS/TC 22 “Hydrocarbons” is made up of technical experts from both the private and public sectors.

An organization applying for ISO 9001 Certification is audited based on an extensive sample of its sites, functions, products, services and processes. Organizations that implement an effective business management system create a confidence among their stakeholders in the capability of their processes and the reliability of their products and or services; while at the same time, benefiting from improved risk management. To become registered to the ISO 9001 standard one must be audited by an external Certification Body (the Third Party Audit). The auditor presents a list of problems to management (if any) were the organization will present an improvement plan to the Certification Body. Once the Certification Body is satisfied that the organization has carried out sufficient corrective action, it will issue the ISO 9001 Certificate. The Certificate is limited by a certain scope and will display the addresses to which the ISO 9001 certificate applies to.

Customer Contact Centers (CCC), also known as Call Centers, are important interfaces between the providers of goods and/or services (such as banks, government agencies, utilities, manufacturers and retailers) and their end customers. Most medium to large organizations dealing with the public make use of CCCs. It is a centralized office used for the purpose of receiving and transmitting a large volume of requests by telephone. It may also deal collectively with letters, faxes, emails and other forms of text communication. Its purpose is to administer incoming product support or information enquiries from consumers, and/or to generate outgoing communications for telemarketing, product support, debt collection, etc.

In December 2010 the CEN Technical Board approved the proposal from AFNOR (French Standardization body) to start European standardization work in the area of expertise services. A new CEN Project Committee, CEN/TC 405 'Project Committee - Expertise services' has been created in order to work on a European Standard specifying the general methodology and requirements needed to carry out an expertise. The standard would apply to every kind of expertise (research into the cause of damage, risk evaluation, assessment of values, goods...) carried out by an individual expert, by a colleague of experts or by an expertise agency.
