Completed my research PhD in Social Psychology early 2014. Since then I’ve been working at ONS, transforming government surveys such as Census and Labour Force Survey. I lead the redesign of labour market questions on the Labour Force Survey for future models of data collection. I design, plan, and lead on qualitative research with the public including cognitive interviews, focus groups and usability testing. Proponent of a user-centred approach to design: in the case of data collection, designing the questions and user-journeys to work with respondent mental models, not against them, is an innovative approach in this field, but one that leads to better statistics. Design also works best when taking a holistic and integrated view: I collaborate with colleagues to reduce blockers in the journey and deliver a coherent end-to-end service. Familiar with Agile working; qualitative analysis including cognitive testing and user research; quantitative analysis (ANOVA, GLM, CFA, PCA); service design; open collaboration/information; government public-facing services.
