A motivated NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow determined to a gain a long-term career in Haematology research, healthcare management and medical technology.I initially started conducting wet laboratory research in the Institute of Inflammation and Ageing (Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham) during my Medical School years at the University of Birmingham. Here I conducted neutrophil work, including imaging of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) via confocal microscopy and learning flow cytometry. My work was focused on the objective quantification of NETs via flow cytometry. Our team's work showed the utility of neutrophil and platelet parameters as auxiliary biomarkers of sepsis in a cohort of thermal injury patients. Thereafter, I conducted my Academic Foundation Programme at University Hospitals of North Midlands and conducted a clinical project focussed on outcomes of patients who sustained ICH and were anti-coagulated. During my time here, I also conducted a PG-Certificate in Medical Education with a focus of educational leadership and supervision and taught anatomy to medical students at the University of Keele. I aim to develop my laboratory skills further and am now undertaking a NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship in Haematology in University Hospitals of Sussex. My primary focus is Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia and investigating new therapeutic targets. I am conducting cell culture, flow cytometry and western blot protocols. Whilst working in the laboratory, I am also conducting a Masters of Research at the University of Sussex while undergoing my clinical IMT training.
