Dr. Anastasios Kotsoglou received his diploma in Civil Engineering from Democritus University (Greece) in 2001. In 2003 he received his Master of Science in “Materials and Novel Technologies in the Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures”. Six years later, in 2009, he was conferred the degree of Doctorate of Philosophy in Structural/Earthquake Engineering (Democritus University, Supervisor Prof. S.J. Pantazopoulou). His research activities have included studies of various problems in earthquake engineering, analysis, design and assessment of reinforced concrete (R.C.) structures, with emphasis to soil-structure interaction (SSI) effects. Seismic design and assessment of R.C. bridges is his main research interest. In 2003 he initiated his research, on the impact of SSI effects to the seismic performance of R.C. bridges. Dr. Kotsoglou developed explicit analytical methods for the design and assessment of R.C. bridges that are susceptible to SSI effects. Dr. Kotsoglou, has officially participated in three European and Hellenic Research Projects (namely “ASPROGE”, “PAVET” and "RETIS-RISK"), all funded by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology of the Hellenic Ministry of Development. ASPROGE (2004-2007) was a research program for the Seismic Protection of Bridges. PAVET (2007-2008) was a research program for the “Industrial Development and Research” held in collaboration with Thrace Plastics S.A. The main research objective was the Application of Geotextiles in Structural Engineering Projects. RETIS-RISK was a research program for the “Real Time Intercity Seismic Risk- Seismic risk in urban and interurban road networks”. He has authored more than 12 published papers on his research field, and his work is cited by many researchers worldwide.
