Dr Andrew Usher Email and Phone Number
My original training was in the psychodynamic tradition, qualifying in 1998. Through experience with clients I gradually moved from working directly with transference to a more conversational and explorative approach whilst retaining a strong relational stance. Having read existential thinkers as a young man (Sartre, Camus, Husserl, Buber and Heidegger primarily) I was interested the experiential aspects of the therapeutic encounter. Opportunities for Continual Professional Development I was drawn to humanistic approaches with explicit existential themes and discovered opportunities to meet Martin Van Kalmthout and Peter Schmid and hear them in seminars and workshops. This afforded me a greater insight into the person centred approach which I have continued to explore in further workshops. Since 2010 I have more fully embraced my existential and philosophical roots in relation to psychotherapy on the D.Proff programme at the New School of Counselling and Psychotherapy. My interests (to mention but a few) include:Psychotherapy and CounsellingExperiential TrainingPeople’s experience of chronic health conditions Bereavement, loss and dramatic life changesChildren, Young People and FamiliesSexuality, gender and identityThe medicalisation of human experienceQualitative ResearchNeuroscienceSupervisionGroups
