This well reputed, mixed practice, in the affluent Bishop's Stortford, saw me caring for patients with both NHS and Private treatments. Colleagues referred oral surgery and short-term orthodontic cases.I worked regularly with children and families, an experience which enthused my interests in paediatric dentistry.

My role as Dental Core Trainee and Senior House Officer was at the Maxillofacial departments of both Brighton and Sussex and Eastbourne District. The role provided exposure to a broad range of scenarios, which allowed me to grow both as a clinician and a person. I worked with excellent consultants who were fantastic teachers.The busy and diverse job role included an on-call night and weekend element. performing treatment under local and general anaesthetic from removing impacted teeth, performing biopsies, minor ops, assisting in bimaxillary and fracture cases, and suturing a variety of wounds. The trust is a major cancer centre therefore I worked in a large team to medically manage unwell patients, and liaise with patients, family, medical staff, auxiliary health workers and social care teams. I had the opportunity to conduct regular orthodontic clinics, focused on treatment planning multidisciplinary cases and performing treatment, I also assisted in osteotomy procedures for patients with craniofacial concerns. We frequently hosted dental students, to whom I assisted and taught surgical skills.

Dental Foundation Training as part of KSS South SchemeAs a foundation trainee at this diverse and busy mixed NHS practice. Many of the patients required large amounts of treatments including fillings, root canals and prosthodontic work, with fantastic scope to provide NHS treatments. I had the opportunity to offer large amounts of private work to patients combining prosthetics and composites, achieving beautiful cosmetic results and happy patients. I learned a lot about ethical sales during this year which prepared me well for associate work. I helped practice building by organising a children’s day during school holidays which attracted families of patients. I was involved in clinical governance in preparation for CQC visits.
