Dr Bhanupratap Gaur is a Senior Research Scientist at the Biomedical Engineering and Technology Innovation Centre (BETIC), IIT Bombay. His role encompasses strategic planning, coordination, supervision, and management of various administrative and research activities to foster innovation and deliver impactful medical device solutions.With a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from IIT Bombay, complemented by MBA, MTech, and BTech, his academic journey is rooted in interdisciplinary expertise. His doctoral research focused on developing patient-customized orthopedic implants for individuals suffering from bone cancers, tumours, and severe bone deformities. These implants are now being used in several hospitals across Mumbai, showcasing the tangible impact of our work.Since its inception in 2014, BETIC has successfully translated numerous medical device innovations into industry-ready products, generated multiple startups and delivered solutions that improved patient care. Supported by central and state funding agencies such as DST, DBT, BIRAC, ICMR, RGSTC, and various foundations, the centre is a hub of innovation and entrepreneurship in the med-tech space.In his current role, he collaborates with department managers across BETIC to ensure seamless product development and innovation. He is passionate about bridging the gap between research and clinical practice, driving projects that address actual critical healthcare challenges, and fostering an ecosystem of innovation that benefits society at large.
