Stronger, faster, smarter, more confident...everybody wants to be the best version of themselves. Taking care of your mental health will put you in a better position to achieve peak performance and optimal life satisfaction. I have built my practice on helping athletes do just that. Through exploration and management of mental health as part of the performance pathway, countless athletes have elevated their game on and off the playing surface. Delivered through a combination of validated assessment tools and clinical interactions, individualized interventions are developed and nuanced through the training and competition cycles. Working with athletes across the life span, I have fine-tuned approaches to youth athletes entering the competitive sport world, worked with athletes in high performance, professional, and world class settings, and helped athletes transition to life after their elite careers wind down.As a Sports Psychiatrist, I have the ability to assess and manage severe mental illness in athletes. With my psychotherapy background, a broad-range of support is delivered beyond medical diagnostics and pharmacotherapy. Additional educational and clinical experience in child and adolescent psychiatry enhances my ability to support youth athletes and their families. Previous extensive clinical and systemic experience in Emergency Psychiatry have equipped me with the tools to manage psychiatric emergencies in athletes and better equip organizations in developing mental health action plans for athletes and staff. Beyond all of that, many athletes connect with me to explore more about themselves and work on improving their overall mental wellness.My current leadership positions with the International Society for Sports Psychiatry, Canadian Academy of Sports and Exercise Medicine, Student Athlete Mental Health Initiative, and U SPORTS give me an opportunity to collaborate with key partners and stakeholders to develop and enhance mental health supports for athletes. Additional involvement with the Safe Sport International Athlete Working Group, the Canadian Football League mental health program and the NCAA Mental Health Advisory Group provide opportunities to work on key initiatives.In additional to formal clinical positions with the Hamilton Tiger Cats, Hamilton Forge, and National Ballet of Canada, I have a robust private practice, am embedded within the Toronto Rock Sports Medicine and Wellness Centre, and maintain several leadership roles with the McMaster University Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine.
