Cate Grundy Phd Email and Phone Number
I am a designer, researcher, and educator, with extensive experience of redirecting technology for positive impact, through UX, nature centric and circular economy approaches. Socially responsible design is facilitated by co-creating with people, communities and stakeholders to make solutions that fit. I innovate across dimensions from physical products to digital and take a systemic approach to considering people as part of a wider natural ecosystem, specialising in education and communication. I also enjoy teaching these approaches to new generations of designers through my Senior Lecturing role at the University of Brighton. I advocate that users and stakeholders should be included during creative phases of a project to ensure success, address latent needs and avoid costly mistakes for businesses and the planet. I specialise in novel participatory methods and during my PhD, developed techniques for working with younger people that are fun and optimized to inform a project. Working with student groups at University, have applied co-design methods to a range of scenarios, from online financial products, to 3D medical products and environmental campaigns.I believe that innovation should be well informed and perform user and desk-based research methods across genres, from investigating new business directions for non-profits, to informing the design of exhibitions and games for museums. My doctoral research inspired me to co-found a business, creating interactive trails and signage to connect people with nature and immerse them in wild environments, enabling them to be aware of the creatures and flora they share the space with. This supports understanding and pro environmental behaviour, besides benefiting physical and mental health. These solutions also provide a more accessible solution for young people and those with hearing or sight impairment. With a first degree in Physics and an MA in Industrial design, I am also able to evaluate the impact of choices during product development, through understanding energy use, mechanical principles and manufacturing processes. I enjoy using Adobe packages, 3D CAD and Life Cycle Analysis, these can combine to ensure well communicated and sustainable solutions for a range of design contexts.I would love to meet other innovators interested in developing purposeful or educational design experiences. Also, any landowners interested in educating or attracting visitors to natural spaces, or who are responsible for educating the public about nature.
