Dr. Boyd received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) from the University of Miami. She is licensed and dual certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). She possesses a Master of Arts in Developmental Psychology from Gallaudet University and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Florida State University. She has professional clinical experience in family medicine, psychiatry, sleep medicine, and substance abuse/addiction rehabilitation in both private and public sectors. She currently practices and specializes in general psychiatry in the private sector, serving the community. In Academia, she has served as Adjunct Clinical Faculty at Graduate Schools of Nursing DNP programs.As a clinician, she promotes mental health awareness to reduce stigmatization and empower those suffering and struggling with mental illness. Her clinical practices are oriented towards the Mental Health Recovery Model. Mental health recovery allows individuals to go through an active process of change, being in control, strengthening, and empowering themselves to improve their mental health and well-being. The recovery model emphasizes and supports a person's potential for recovery. Recovery sees symptoms as a continuum of the norm rather than an aberration. Mental health recovery is generally seen in this approach as a personal journey rather than a set outcome, and one that may involve developing hope, a secure base and sense of self, supportive relationships, empowerment, social inclusion, coping skills, and meaning.
