Computational LinguistCherith Analytics May 2022 - PresentModified trees based upon one text and morphology to follow another text and morphology (e.g., Nestle-Aland 28th Edition 1904 New Testament to follow Unlocked Greek New Testament text and morphology) and for just updated Bible text (e.g., ESV, CUVMP). Wrote a program to compare old and updated text creating a word map, manually checking the word map for flagged words. Wrote a program to automatically update the trees based upon a word map, and then manually checking flagged verses in the trees.Processed updates to alignments of Bibles to allow for enhanced search functionality and original language statistical data for the WeDevote Bible website (wd.bible) and APP.Created concordances for phrases using trees and alignments for translations. -

Computational LinguistClear Bible, Inc May 2020 - Apr 2022Grandville, Mi, UsPerformed R&D at Clear Bible, Inc. (formerly Global Bible Initiative) to help them develop their Bible translation tools, as well as supporting ongoing translation projects throughout the world.Enhanced ClearEngine, an auto aligner (aligns/links words of the source and target), written in C#, for an original manuscript of the Bible as the source and a translation in any language as the target. The ClearEngine takes the translation model and alignments from a Statistical Machine Translation (SMT) model (e.g., IBM1, IBM2, IBM4, HMM, FastAlign), uses syntactic information about the manuscript (e.g., syntactic trees, morphology, parts of speech), and makes its own auto alignments. Make enhancements by adding modules through C# and Python packages.Wrote and modified C# programs to decode and encode USFM/USX formats; JSON, Pharaoh and MARBLE alignment formats; and to perform evaluation tests using F-score, precision and recall metrics, etc.Created trees for the Old Testament following the text and morphology of Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (OSHB, https://github.com/openscriptures/morphhb). This was done by identifying differences in the text and morphology compared to Westminster Leningrad Codex (WLC) and modifying the grammar and lexicon/dictionary used to create trees for WLC. The trees for OSHB have not been checked.Ran alignment services and testing, wrote PowerShell, Python, and Unix shell scripts. -
